State Sen. Chris Brown (R-Ventnor City) sent well wishes upon learning former Republican State Chairman Doug Steinhardt had ended his gubernatorial bid.
“Doug has worked tirelessly as our chairman, and I only hope he is able to work out his professional obligations,” Brown said. “My thoughts are with Doug and his beautiful family.”
The New Jersey Globe first reported Steinhardt was dropping his gubernatorial bid Monday evening. The Warren County Republican chairman said he was pulling out of the race, citing unforeseen professional obligations.
His departure leaves former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli the clear favorite for the nomination, but new candidates still have a chance to enter the race. They have until Jan. 16 to file for the organizational line in Ocean County. Hunterdon County’s deadline is Jan. 29. Bergen County has its cutoff on Feb. 1.
