A Bergen County Democrat today became the sixth member of the State Senate to announce his support of Gov. Phil Murphy’s nomination of Michael Noriega to the New Jersey Supreme Court.
State Sen. Gordon Johnson (D-Englewood) said he would vote to confirm Noriega as an associate justice if the nomination reaches the Senate floor.
“Michael is an experienced attorney who has demonstrated his commitment to public service through his time as a public defender and his extensive pro bono work,” Johnson said. “I look forward to seeing him confirmed and once again having representation from the Hispanic community on the Supreme Court.”
Noriega was named to replace Barry Albin, who retired last year after a 19-year stint as an associate justice.
So far, State Sens. Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield), Vin Gopal (D-Long Branch), Joseph Lagana (D-Paramus), Vincent Polistina (R-Egg Harbor Township), and Brian P. Stack (D-Union City) have indicated their support of Noriega’s confirmation.
