Matt Gould, Summit councilman, dies at 48

Democrat elected in 2017

Summit Councilman Matthew Gould died last night as a result of a heart condition, his wife said today in a Facebook post.

He was 48.

A Democrat, Gould was elected to the council in 2017 to represent Summit’s first ward.  He defeated Republican John Dougherty with 59% of the vote.

He worked in the media and entertainment industries and held programming positions at Time Warner, the New York Times and the Discovery Channel.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and their three daughters.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 11 AM Friday morning at Congregation Ohr Shalom in Summit.
