James Bullard, who served three terms as a Piscataway councilman before dropping his re-election bid last year for health reasons, died on February 15. He was 81.
He was a heart transplant recipient in 2006.
Bullard was elected to a Ward 2 seat on the Piscataway Township Council in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014 and 2018.
He won a contested Democratic primary for the Ward 2 council seat in June 2022 by 391 votes, 62%-28%, against school board member Ralph Johnson. Bullard dropped out in August and was replaced on the ballot by Dennis Espinosa. He completed his term and left office on January 1.
Born in the Bahamas, Bullard spent 29 years as an electrical engineer at AT&T Bell Labs.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lois, three children, and six grandchildren.
The Bullard family will receive visitors on February 25 from 9:30-10:30 AM at Macedonia O.F.W. Baptist Church in Piscataway. Funeral services will immediately follow.
