Jacqueline Yancey, who worked as director of the Paterson YMCA nutrition program, died on January 10. She was 86. Her father, Judge Roger Yancey, became New Jersey’s first African American county court judge in New Jersey after Gov. Robert Meyner appointed him in 1956. In 1972, Judge Yancey was shot and killed in a Newark motor inn by a family friend – a woman who five years earlier had stabbed him in the neck while he was in his judicial chambers.
Robert Walsh, a former mayor of Howell Township, died on January 23. He was 61. He was elected councilman in 2005, served as mayor from 2009 to 2012, and returned to the council until losing his seat in 2018.
Gregory Kavanaugh, a former Brick councilman, died in Florida on December 2, 2019. He was 56. He served as a councilman from 1997 to 2005 and ran for mayor in 2009.
Gregory Perrini, a former operations director for the Marlboro Township Municipal Utilities Authority, died on January 21. He was 65.
