Candace Ashmun, a leading New Jersey conservationist who had been named to the New Jersey Pinelands Commission by Gov. Brendan Byrne in 1979, died on May 23. She was 96. Ashmun was a reporter for the Somerset Hills Exponent, a member of the Bedminster Board of Education, a member of the State Planning Commission, a trustee of the Coalition for Affordable Housing and the Environment, vice chair of the Fund for New Jersey and as a board member of Raritan Headwaters Association, N.J. Highlands Coalition.
Calvin Hart, a retired Jersey City police officer and homicide detective for the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office, died on May 25. He was 71. Hart was a Purple Heart recipient as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam.
Paul Hanuschik, a former Bordentown township committeeman, died on May 27. He was 87. Hanuschik served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Katherine Rice-Donachie, who spent ten years on the Somerdale Board of Education, died on May 28. She was 90.
Lena Padovano, a member of the Midland Park Library Board of Trustees, has died. She was 49.
Kenneth Martin, a former chairman of the Hampton Planning Board, died on May 24. He was 85.
Dorothy Hornlein, a former member of the Cliffwood Beach Democratic Club, died on May 28. She was 88.
