Helen Bauer, a former member of the New Jersey State Board of Education, died on April 24 from COVID-19, ending an eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  Bauer served as president the Southampton Township Board of Education and as a member of the Lenape Regional School district.  She had worked as a teacher, and in advertising sales at a local newspaper.

Dick Salmon, a former mayor of Pitman, died on April 27.  He was 76. Salmon was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in Vietnam. He served as a Pitman councilman from 1977 to 1979 and as mayor from 1980 to 1983.

Matthew Carbonelli, who served 33 years on the Paterson Planning Board, died on April 28.  He was 80.

Chip Gildea, a former Saddle River councilman and municipal court judge in Ho-Ho-Kus, has died.  He was 72.  Gildea served on the Saddle River Planning Board.
