‘If I am asked, I would,’ acting governor says

Acting Gov. Sheila Oliver said she was ready to campaign for any Democrat seeking to win or hold their seat in the Assembly.

“If I am asked, I would,” the acting governor said when asked if she planned to campaign for Democrats in the legislature this year.

Oliver served as Assembly Speaker from January 2010 to January 2014. She left the legislature to serve as Gov. Phil Murphy’s lieutenant governor and as commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs when Murphy took office last year.

Oliver declined to say if she had planned to help any specific candidates.

“I support every Democratic candidate running for the state legislature,” she said.
