A top ally of Gov. Phil Murphy today bashed newly-minted GOP gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli as a Chris Christie supporter who is partly responsible the former’s governor’s failed legacy.
“Jack Ciattarelli is a Republican political insider who fully supported Chris Christie’s disastrous agenda while he was in Trenton,” said Democratic state party vice chair Peg Schaffer. “That is the exact opposite of the kind of leader New Jerseyans want. Governor Murphy and fellow Democrats are working hard to correct the many mistakes of the Christie era, and Jack Ciattarelli can’t be trusted to fix them.
Schaffer, who is also the Somerset County Democratic chair, said that Ciattarelli needs to be held accountable for votes he cast in the New Jersey State Assembly in support of Christie.
“From stripping away funding for women’s health care, to enacting devastating cuts to NJ Transit, to drastically reducing state education aid and thus causing property tax increases on the middle class, to failing to support common sense gun safety legislation, Ciattarelli owns the failed Christie legacy and it will follow him throughout this campaign,” Schaffer said. “Even in the county we both call home, voters have rejected the old ways that Jack Ciattarelli personifies and chosen a very different path.”
