Democratic congressional candidate Mikie Sherrill said tonight that she supports an independent investigation into allegations that a former Murphy administration official and campaign staffer was accused of sexual misconduct, but stopped short of saying that the Legislature should conduct the probe.
“I am deeply troubled to hear these allegations. We can’t allow our society to silence the voices of the victims of sexual harassment and abuse,” said Sherrill, a former federal prosecutor. “We need an independent investigation to get to the truth of this matter, and in clear terms to state that sexual misconduct will never be tolerated.”
