Former Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Tom Malinowski has been endorsed by Services Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 32BJ, giving the Democratic congressional candidate in New Jersey’s 7th district the backing of both sides in a heated dispute between two unions on an issue at Newark Liberty International Airport.

United Airlines recently awarded a contract for ground services at Newark airport to United Ground Express, a wholly-owned subsidiary.  United Ground Express International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW), which would replace 32BJ, endorsed Malinowski on Monday.

“Our endorsement committee, comprised of local members, met with Tom and were impressed with his commitment to fighting for a $15 federal minimum wage, safeguarding union rights and supporting immigrant communities and working families,” said Kevin Brown, vice president and New Jersey state director of 32BJ SEIU. “32BJ members are committed to turning out to help elect Tom as a friend of labor and working people who will push for sensible laws that will strengthen our communities. Tom understands that fighting for a better quality of life should top priority, and unions help ensure progress.”
