Rep. Donald Norcross (D-Camden) will chair the House Armed Services Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee, which positions him as a key advocate for New Jersey’s Defense Department facilities.

“We live in an uncertain world where there are serious threats to our country and our democracy, and our military needs to be equipped with resources to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow,” Norcross said.  “New Jersey is home to a number of defense facilities and industries that provide high-tech jobs and play an important role in the security of the United States, including Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. In this new leadership role, I will be able to continue supporting our missions at these facilities and others across the country.”

Norcross’ subcommittee is responsible for funding equipment for all branches of the military, and for oversight of all tactical aviation and helicopters, combat and tactical vehicles, and service member equipment and electronic warfare programs.

Two freshmen New Jersey House members, Reps. Andy Kim (D-Marlton) and Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), recently won spots on the Armed Services Committee.  The Join Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is in Kim’s district and the Picatinny Arsenal is in Sherrill’s.

“I want to thank my colleagues for entrusting me with this important role on the Committee. I look forward to working in a bipartisan manner to make sure our military is equipped to meet mission requirements and deter potential adversaries, while ensuring the Department of Defense’s acquisition programs are fiscally responsible,” said Norcross.  “As the proud father of a veteran, serving on the House Armed Services Committee has always been personal for me, and this new post will allow me to lead efforts to ensure our military can execute, innovate, and modernize.”
