Hunterdon County Democratic Committee Treasurer Eric Richard has a pick for president, but he’s not saying who.
“I have a personal preference, but I’m not disclosing that at this time simply because we don’t want that appearance of lobbying or anything like that on the various delegates,” Richard said. “I’m going to try to keep it to myself for now.”
Hunterdon County Democrats are set to hold their 2020 presidential convention this Sunday.
They’ll be the first Democratic organization in New Jersey to officially back a candidate to take on President Donald Trump.
The county is hosting an open convention for their presidential nominations. That’s the reason for Richard’s reticence on his pick for president.
“I think [HCDC Chairwoman Arlene Quiñones Perez] and I, and perhaps some of other officers, decided to try and keep the convention as open as possible and not exert any influence on anyone to swing a vote, so to speak,” he said.
