Katie Brennan met Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez in August 2018, according to Joanna Klonsky, who has been helping Brennan handle media inquiries concerning allegations of sexual assault leveled at former Murphy administration official Al Alvarez
Suarez did not include this in a statement she issued today.
“Ms. Brennan met Prosecutor Suarez on August 30th, 2018 for the first and only time. She did not know the prosecutor during the handling of her case, which was closed on Dec 1, 2017,” said Klonsky. “During the course of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office’s investigation, Ms. Brennan spoke only with Assistant Prosecutor Jane Wiener and Detective Kristin Mikulak.”
Klonsky told the New Jersey Globe that the two met at a social event and that this was the only time Suarez and Brennan met face to face. They did not discuss the case, Klonsky said.
“Considering the incredibly high case volume in Hudson County, this was standard procedure for the office,” Suarez said. “It was only after being contacted by a reporter with the WSJ the following year, October 2, 2018, that I became aware of this investigation and the parties involved.”
Suarez said that was the first time she had a discussion with the Attorney General’s office.
“It was also during that same conversation that I advised the Attorney General’s Office of my familiarity with both individuals,” Suarez said.
Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said this week that he has referred the case to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey for review.
“Ms. Brennan has not yet been contacted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office,” Klonsky said.10.17.18 final Suarez statement
