Voters in five Ocean County municipalities — Toms River, Beachwood, Pine Beach, Seaside Heights and South Toms River — will decide today if the want to merge the Toms River Regional School District with the Seaside Heights School District.
Four New Jersey municipalities will hold special school referendum elections to obtain voter approval for additional public school spending.
Westfield wants to increase its budget by $1.675 million to pay for new teachers and other staff, including three part-time security guards. Voters must approve the additional funds, which will be financed by the school tax levy. Westfield moved its school board elections to April last year.
In New Brunswick, voters are being asked to vote yes or no on a plan to raise $37.1 million to fund local public schools for 2024-25.
In a bid to retain courtesy busing, Monroe Township (Middlesex County) needs voters to sign off on an additional $2.8 million. Courtesy busing goes to students who live close to their school (less than two miles for grades K-8 and less than 2.5 miles for grades 9-12). It will also fund late buses for school sports and an autism teacher.
Voter approval is being sought in Byram Township to raise $1.7 million to pay for additional salaries to reduce and maintain class sizes.
