Welle hits $1 million mark

In uphill race vs. Smith, Democrat doubles previous fundraising record

Democrat Josh Welle says he’s raised over $1 million in his long-shot bid to oust nineteen-term Rep. Chris Smith (R-Hamilton) in New Jersey’s 4th district.

The most any Democrat has raised against Smith was $480,000, when Josh Zeitz won 34% of the vote.  The 4th is the only district in the state that has become more Republican since it was drawn in 2012.

“What we’re seeing across Mercer, Ocean, and Monmouth counties is that people are tired of having an absentee, career politician who no longer represents our values, especially on women’s rights and inclusion. People in central Jersey and the country are calling for a new generation of leaders,” Welle said.  “Every dollar, door knock, and phone call is a citizen of this district telling Chris Smith that they won’t take it anymore and they want to be heard.”
