Landslide win for Van Drew; Youngblood finishes last

State Sen. Jeff Van Drew won the endorsement of the Atlantic County Democratic Committee today and will run on the organization line there as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd district.  Van Drew won 57% of the vote in a four-candidate field.

Van Drew received 131 votes, with Will Cunningham, a former aide to U.S. Senator Cory Booker finishing second with 41 votes.  Sean Thom scored a third place finish with 32 votes, and Tanzie Youngblood, who had been expected to do better, finished fourth with 27 votes.

Van Drew’s victory in Atlantic, which provides 41% of the Democratic primary voters in the district, now makes him the clear front runner for the chance to flip Frank LoBiondo’s House seat to the Democrats.  Van Drew is expected to have all eight organization lines.

Atlantic County Democrats endorsed U.S. Senator Bob Menendez by acclamation.

  1. This is very disappointing. I am fully supporting Tanzie Youngblood. Van Drew is too much like Trump. I cannot support trumps views ergo Van Drews.

  2. Not my candidate. I will vote third party or write in one of my pets first. He might as well run as a Repugnican.

  3. Crazy times when Democrats endorse a Republican. Cunningham, Thom, and Youngblood need to decide which ONE of them will be the face of opposition to DINOs and Norcross’s corrupting influence. My preference has been ( and remains ) Tanzie Youngblood but any of the three would be preferable to Jeff Van Drew.
