A former aide to Gov. Chris Christie is headed to the 2nd district to manage Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s re-election campaign.

Ron Filan, the political director of the Republican State Committee, has been named to lead Van Drew’s bid for re-election to a second term.

Van Drew switched parties earlier on December 19 after voting against the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Filan managed Rep. Frank LoBiondo’s 2010 re-election campaign and Assemblyman Chris Brown’s re-election bid in 2015.  He has served on the staffs of Assemblymen Sam Fiocchi, Vince Polistina and John Amodeo and was the regional director of operations in Christie’s office from 2016 to 2018.

He served as New Jersey State Director for the Republican National Committee in 2018 and as political director of the Republican State Committee in 2019.

The Press of Atlantic City first reported Filan’s hiring.
