Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman is going to get some laughs out of President Donald Trump’s Wildwood rally for Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis)
“It’s going to be humorous that Jeff’s going to think this is all about him. Everybody’s going for Trump. They don’t care about Jeff,” Suleiman said. “And it’s going to be funny, him trying to mingle with a bunch of working folks in his $2,000 suit.”
Trump is set to host a “Keep America Great” rally at the Wildwood Convention Center on Jan. 28.
Van Drew left the Democratic party last month after local Democrats soured on him over his opposition to impeachment.
Suleiman had told the congressman he could not guarantee a primary win if Van Drew didn’t change his stance on impeachment.
Trump has welcomed Van Drew with open arms, though all three of the Republican candidates that were in the race while he was a Democrat — David Richter, Brian Fitzherbert and Robert Patterson — remain in the running.
Suleiman said he and Cape May County Democratic Chairman Brendan Sciarra intend to hold a counter protest.
“I would hope that the officials in Wildwood get some sort of performance bond or something so they’re reimbursed for all the costs that are going to ensue,” Suleiman said, referring to police overtime costs Trump rallies tend to incur. “Trump has a habit of stiffing people for their bills. I hope the poor people of Wildwood don’t get saddled with a big bill after this thing.”
Please advise when protest is scheduled.
