The New Jersey State Troopers Fraternal Association today endorsed three incumbent congressmen – Reps. Christopher Smith (R-Hamilton), Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff), and Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) – and three GOP challenger: David Richter in the 3rd district and Rosemary Becchi in the 11th.

The announcement of the endorsements came from Wayne Blanchard, the president of the union that represents over 1,700 state troopers.

“We recognize that our nation is at a crossroads on so many important issues,” the endorsement said.  “These candidates represent the needed leadership, and we are certain will provide the utmost support for the men and women of the SFTA.”

Richter faces Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) and Becchi is taking on Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair).

The STFA did not endorse in the U.S. Senate race, or races for Congress in seven other districts.

The union also endorsed two incumbent sheriffs seeking re-election, both Democrats: Eric Scheffler in Atlantic and Jack Kemler in Mercer.

“We believe they will work tirelessly to provide a positive byproduct on policy making and initiatives to ensure public trust in police while balancing the needs of our membership,” the union stated.
