Soliman: Bob Menendez approvals will continue to rise

Dem strategist says Senator will keep fighting Donald Trump

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez’s approval ratings are strong considering the campaign that was just waged against him, says Michael Soliman, the senator’s top political advisor.

A new Monmouth University Poll released this morning puts Menendez’s approval ratings at 40%-43%.

“Senator Menendez won a record victory in his re-election campaign three months ago despite having $40 million spent on attack ads against him,” said Soliman.  “New Jerseyans know that Bob Menendez is fighting for them and standing up to Donald Trump.”

Menendez won a third term last year by a 54%-43% margin against Republican Bob Hugin, who spent more $36 million of his own money in a bid to unseat him.

Soliman said the most important numbers in the Monmouth Poll belong to Trump, whose approvals were at 37%-58% among New Jerseyans.

“Senator Menendez stands up to Donald Trump seven days a week, in Washington and in New Jersey.  That’s what the people want him to do,” Soliman said, adding that Menendez has not stopped campaigning since his election day.

Menendez plans to stump for state, county and local Democratic candidates across New Jersey this year and help U.S. Senator Cory Booker win the presidency, according to Soliman.

“I’m confident that Senator Menendez’s popularity will continue to grow as New Jerseyans see him working hard to stop the Trump agenda and return the White House to the Democrats,” said Soliman.
