Smith says his Lakewood residents among missing after Florida building collapse

A Lakewood couple is missing after the collapse of a condominium in Surfside, Florida on Thursday.

“We pray that Benny and Malky Weisz of Lakewood, and Malky’s father Harry Rosenberg, are found and rescued after the catastrophic collapse of their condo building in Florida early yesterday—nurturing the hope that the expertise, tenacity and bravery of rescue workers will result in finding them and others presumed trapped in debris,” said Rep. Christopher Smith (R-Hamilton).

The three are among the estimated 159 still unaccounted for.

“This is a rescue operation not recovery,” Smith said.  “People have survived for days under rubble.”

Smith said he spoke with a family friend, Eli Levitan, who is in Surfside as the rescue operation continues.

“He said more needs to be done,” Smith said. I have reached out to Governor DeSantis’ chief of staff and Senator Marco Rubio to urge that an apparent offer by an Israelis search and rescue team be seriously considered and accepted.”
