Rep. Albio Sires is fully committed to ousting West New York Mayor Felix Roque when the latter’s seat comes up for a vote less than two weeks from today.
“I’m going to do as much as I can. I think West New York needs to change,” Sires said. “When you look at Union City, you see the progress Union City’s made. When you look at what’s happened eight years in West New York, we are falling far behind most municipalities here in the county. He’s just not around. He’s a doctor. I understand — he’s got a busy schedule, but it’s time we get new leadership.”
Sires said he’s been on the ground campaigning for the New Beginnings West New York slate. The county-backed candidates include Commissioner Gabriel Rodriguez, who is seeking Roque’s seat.
The congressman said he intends to keep knocking on doors and sending mailers until the ballots are cast on May 14.
There’s little love lost between Roque and Sires, who is a former West New York Mayor.
During last year’s Hudson County warette, the two exchanged a number of blows, and Roque eventually called for the congressman to step down.
