Dr. Sebastian Gorka, who served in the Trump White House as deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, has endorsed John McCann for the Republican nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th district.
McCann faces former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan in the GOP primary for the chance to take on freshman Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff). Lonegan, who backed Ted Cruz for president in 2016 and was part of a movement to deny Trump the nomination at the convention, has become a Trump fan. He plans to use the slogan “Republicans for the President’s Agenda” in his off-the-line primary bid.
“John has been a loyal supporter of our President from the beginning—committed to enacting our America First agenda. We need fighters like John in Congress to go to work with President Trump and vote on behalf of the American people,” Gorka said. “For far too long Washington has forgotten the men and women that are our nation. With citizen-politicians like John McCann we can finally ‘drain the swamp.’”
Gorka resigned from the White House staff last summer following the departure of Steve Bannon, saying that people from within the Trump Administration were undermining the president’s agenda.
“It’s an incredible honor to have the support and endorsement of Dr. Gorka—a champion for the American people,” McCann said. “I have long admired Dr. Gorka and his passionate dedication to Making America Great Again. I believe if we fight and never give up on our America First agenda we can Make America Great Again, and once achieved, Keep America Great.”
