Sarah Schoengood, a small businesswoman running as a Democrat for New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district, unveiled her campaign team today, with Jake Briggs – a New Jersey native who worked for Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) for years – serving as her campaign manager.
Ahmed Elsayed, a former press secretary in U.S. Senator Cory Booker’s office, will serve as Schoengood’s senior advisor. Bill Hyers, who held high-ranking jobs on the campaigns of former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and former President Barack Obama, will be her chief strategist.
“I’m thrilled to announce the addition of key advisors to our campaign team, whose dedication and expertise will propel us to victory this November,” Schoengood said in a statement. “They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help us reach voters across the district and build a true grassroots coalition that is led by the people. Together, we will build a winning campaign that puts Jerseyans first.”
The 3rd district is currently held by Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), who is running for Senate this year. Schoengood is one of four Democratic candidates aiming to succeed him, with Assemblymembers Carol Murphy (D-Mount Laurel) and Herb Conaway (D-Delran) and civil rights attorney Joe Cohn also running.
