Prempeh wins Bergen GOP line by landside 7-1 margin

Air Force veteran is overwhelming front-runner for rematch with Pascrell

U.S. Air Force veteran Billy Prempeh won a landslide victory in his bid for the Republican nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 9th district, defeating Patrick Quinn, 154-20, an 89%-11% victory at tonight’s Bergen County Republican convention.

Prempeh is seeking a rematch with Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-Paterson).  Pascrell defeated Prempeh by 105,045 votes, 66%-32%, in his 2020 bid for a 13th term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Passaic County Republicans have already awarded Prempeh their organization line.

Quinn, a Pompton Lakes realtor, had initially sough the Republican nomination for Conrgess in the 11th district against Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair).  He switched to the 9th after his hometown was redistricted there.

Pascrell is a former assemblyman and Paterson mayor.  He was elected to the House in 1996, one of just two Democrats to unseat a Republican congressman in the 1990s.
