Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) has endorsed his North Jersey colleague, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff), for re-election in New Jersey’s 5th district.

“I am proud to support the re-election of Josh Gottheimer because he has fought for the people of his district, our state, and our country throughout his time in Congress,” said Payne. “I know he shares my commitment to the Gateway Project and several other issues critical to the betterment of our districts.”

Payne is the latest member of the New Jersey congressional delegation to back Gottheimer, a two-term Bergen County Democrat.  U.S. Senator Cory Booker and Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) have also announced their support of his candidacy.

Gottheimer faces a Democratic primary challenge from Glen Rock Councilwoman Arati Kreibich.

Bernie Sanders and Ayanna Pressler, a Massachusetts congresswoman, have endorsed Kreibich.

Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries are supporting Gottheimer.

“I encourage all of his constituent to send him back to Washington,” said Payne.
