Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) reported raising $228,797 in the first quarter of 2022, pushing him above the $1 million mark for money raised this cycle and giving him a warchest of $1.7 million as he seeks a 14th term in Congress.
Pascrell only drew one opponent, 2020 nominee Billy Prempeh, who raised $25,663, a drop from a $50,684 fourth quarter and $87,952 third quarter last year. Prempeh has consistently spent as much as he raises most quarters, meaning he only has $18,462 to spend.
When Pascrell faced Prempeh in 2020, the incumbent won by a 66-32% margin. Since then, the Paterson-based 9th district got somewhat more Republican in redistricting, losing Democratic parts of Bergen County and gaining more conservative areas in Passaic County in exchange.
But even with Hispanics swinging towards Republicans in 2020, President Joe Biden still carried the district by 19 points, and the popular Pascrell is not expected to face a serious threat to his re-election.
