Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin is up on the air with two new TV ads that features stories of botched ophthalmological procedures by Dr. Salomon Melgen, a friend and onetime contributor to incumbent Bob Menendez.
The Hugin ads say that Melgen is in prison for Medicare fraud and accuses him of performing unnecessary surgeries that blinded patients.
“These two new ads tell the story of Bob Menendez’s selfish priorities and who he really is: a corrupt, career politician who is only interested in serving himself and his political donors,” said Megan Piwowar, a spokesperson for Hugin. “Menendez violated federal law and abused the power of his office for his ‘best friend’ Dr. Melgen, a convicted felon and donor who blinded patients by lasering their retinas and performing unnecessary, horrific procedures that some compared to torture. Instead of going on a campaign tour begging to be re-elected, Menendez should be going on a public tour apologizing to the patients who Melgen blinded as well as to the people of New Jersey for disgracing and embarrassing them. “
