The National Women’s Political Caucus has endorsed Carol Murphy for Congress in New Jersey’s 3rd district, where three-term Democrat Andy Kim is giving up his seat to run for the U.S. Sente.
“Their support means a lot to me, especially as I work to become the first woman to represent South Jersey in Congress,” said Murphy, the majority whip of the New Jersey State Assembly.
Murphy, Assembly Health Committee Chairman Herb Conaway, Jr., and civil rights attorney Joe Cohn are seeking Kim’s seat, which was drawn in the last round of redistricting to favor Democrats. Two newcomers, Sarah Schoengood and Brian Schkeeper, are also in the race.
Murphy also has the backing of Emily’s List and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Foundation for Women Legislators.
Three candidates – Cohn, Conaway, and Murphy – will participate in the first debate of the candidates seeking to replace Kim on Tuesday, May 14 at 8 PM. The debate is sponsored by the New Jersey Globe, On New Jersey, and Rider University.
