11th congressional district Republican candidate Robert Kovic was endorsed today by Michael Flynn, a former National Security Adviser under President Donald Trump who has recently re-entered the national spotlight for his role in the attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
“In Congress, Rob Kovic will fight the radical left and any establishment Republicans hell bent on marching our country towards socialism,” Flynn said in his endorsement. “I’m proud to stand with Rob in the fight to defend our Constitution.”
Kovic, a former Ridgefield councilman, entered the race in July but has made few waves since, raising only $25,599 as of 3rd quarter fundraising reports. He’s received two previous endorsements, from former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell and former Maryland congressional candidate Kimberly Klacik; like Flynn, both Grenell and Klacik promoted conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and are popular in right-wing and far-right circles.
Kovic faces seven other candidates in the 11th district’s Republican primary, currently the most crowded in the state, among them Morris County Commissioner Tayfun Selen and 2020 gubernatorial candidate Phil Rizzo.
If Kovic is in fact able to use endorsements like Flynn’s to win over Republican primary voters, he’ll then face Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), a two-term incumbent with a $4.6 million warchest.
