Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rik Mehta will hold a disability town hall Wednesday that he claims is the first of its kind in state history.

The virtual event, set to be held over Zoom at 7 p.m. Wednesday, will see Mehta outline his policies to aide New Jerseyans with disabilities.

“I am thrilled to hold this historic event for New Jersey,” he said. “Too often, people with disabilities are left out of the political conversation in this country and their voices matter, especially right now, on the precipice of the most important election facing our country.”

Mark Bookman, an accessibility consultant who is pursuing a PhD on the history of disability from the University of Pennsylvania, will moderate the event.

Mehta is running to oust U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-Newark). Republicans last won a U.S. Senate race when U.S. Sen. Clifford Case won a fourth term in 1972.

The two candidates will meet virtually for a New Jersey Globe debate at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
