MacArthur writes off $1.3 million in campaign loans

Ex-congressman carrying debt of $216k

Former Rep. Tom MacArthur has $27,563 remaining in his campaign account, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

MacArthur was narrowly defeated in his bid for re-election to a third term last November by Democrat Andy Kim and left Congress on January 3.

MacArthur is carrying a debt of $216,205 after paying himself back $40,000 on a loan he made to his own campaign.  MacArthur has forgiven an additional debt of more than $1.3 million.
