MacArthur endorses Richter for his old seat

Former Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-Toms River) has endorsed David Richter to fill the 3rd district congressional seat he occupied from 2015 to 2019.

Richter is the Republican nominee to take on freshman Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), who narrowly ousted MacArthur in the 2018 mid-term elections.

“David has the private-sector leadership experience that the residents of the 3rd district deserve from their Representative,” said MacArthur.  “As both a former business owner and a former Member of Congress, I know that David understands what needs to be done in order to rebuild our economy, create jobs and get the residents of the 3rd district back to work.”

MacArthur had preferred Kate Gibbs for the GOP nomination, which Richter won by a wide margin in the July 7 primary election.

“During his time in Congress, Tom was able to accomplish a great deal for this district, including ensuring that the largest employer in the region, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, was protected from closure,” said Richter. “As the next Representative from the Third District it is my hope to be able to build and expand upon many of those same successes.”

MacArthur won an open House seat in 2014 when two-term Rep. Jon Runyan (R-Moorestown) decide not to seek re-election.
