After an impressive start, Goutam Jois, a Summit attorney who is challenging Tom Malinowski for the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th district, raised just $37,820 in the first three months of the year.
He has $302,131 cash-on-hand.
According to a report filed with the Federal Election Commission, Jois has now raised $378,216 for is congressional campaign — $150,000 in a personal loan – and has spent $44,888 in his bid to get a shot at Rep. Leonard Lance in the fall.
Jois outlasted four other candidates in the field and now faces Malinowski, a former Assistant U.S. Secretary of State, and 2016 candidate Peter Jacob in the Democratic primary. Malinowski has won organization lines in Union, Essex, Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset and Warren counties and has raised more than $1 million. Jacob’s campaign is nearly broke.
