The Ironworkers Local 399 union has endorsed Brigid Callahan Harrison for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd district.
“The Ironworkers are doing something we rarely do, jump into a crowded and contested primary race,” said Richard Sweeney, the union president. “We are doing this not against any specific candidate, but simply because it is the right thing to do if we are going to beat Van Drew in November.”
Sweeney’s brother, Senate President Steve Sweeney, was an early supporter of Harrison’s campaign to unseat Rep. Jeff Van Drew.
“Brigid is the best that South Jersey has to offer,” Richard Sweeney said. “She is a self-made woman. She is a union member and a long-time member of our community- and instead of speaking only to personal passion projects, she is speaking to the real bread and butter issues that matter to New Jersey and that will beat Jeff Van Drew.”
