Richard Tabor, a New Jersey State Trooper seeking the GOP nomination to take on U.S. Senator Cory Booker, captured the endorsement of the Somerset County Republican organization at their convention tonight.
Tabor defeated former News 12 reporter Alex Zdan, 65-38, with 10 votes going to Dr. Robert Lebovics, a physician from Englewood.
In the race for Congress in New Jersey’s 12th district, the Somerset GOP endorsement went to Greg Mele, an attorney and frequent candidate. He defeated David Brown, 41-6. The incumbent, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing), is not seeking re-election.
A U.S. Army veteran, Tabor has the use of Republican organization slogans in Atlantic, Hudson, Hunterdon, Ocean, and Union counties. Zdan won party support in Cumberland, Cape May, Essex, Passaic, and Salem. Another candidate, former Tabernacle Deputy Mayor Justin Michael Murphy, received endorsements in Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer.
