The Hunterdon County Republican screening committee voted to support RIk Mehta for U.S. Senate, giving the first-time candidate an edge as he seeks the organization line at the convention on Wednesday.
Mehta has won organization lines in Union and Somerset counties.
He is one of three Republicans to make the ballot for the Monmouth County GOP convention on Saturday, along with Hirsh Singh and Natalie Rivera. Former Monmouth County freeholder Gary Rich, former prosecutor Stuart Meissner and Tricia Flanagan did not get past the Monmouth screening committee.
Meissner has the backing of Hudson County Republican Chairman Jose Arango.
