Marcos Arroyo, a housing inspector from West New York, has won the backing of the Hudson County Republican organization to run for the open congressional seat in New Jersey’s 8th district.

“We need a Congressman who will fight inflation, bring back energy independence and educational choice, and help make our constituents lives better,” stated Arroyo.

The retirement of Rep. Albio Sires (D-West New York ) creates the first open House seat in Hudson County since 2006.  The front runner for the Democratic nomination is Robert J. Menendez, a Port Authority commissioner and the son of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez.

Arroyo worked on relief efforts after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2011 and following Hurricanes Sandy and Maria.  He also volunteers in a training program that has helped immigrants become U.S. citizens.

Hudson county also includes a small part of the 9th district, and the county GOP organization has endorsed U.S. Air Force veteran Billy Prempeh for a rematch against Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-Paterson).

Essex County Republicans are expected to recruit a candidate in the 10th district, where Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) is the favorite to win renomination.

The GOP candidate for Hudson County Clerk is expected to be Beth Hamburger, a Hoboken resident who has lost races for State Assembly in 2009 and State Senate in 2011 and 2017.   Hussain Khoulani of Jersey City will run for Sheriff.

“This diverse slate has a chance to replicate what we did here after the Democrats’ major failures in the 1970’s, elect Republicans in Hudson County,” said Hudson County Republican Chairman Jose Arango.  “It is clear Latinos and other minority groups are no longer automatic Democrats and they are sick of the wokeness and high inflation coming from the Left.  I will do everything I can to elect these great candidates.”
