U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm will be in New Providence today to tour Nokia Bell Labs and announce research and development initiative to advance commercial deployments of clean energy initiatives.
Granholm will be joined by U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes), Bell Labs Core Research president Peter Vetter and Bell Labs Solutions Research president Thierry Klein as she seeks to promote President Joe Biden’s plan to lower home energy costs while creating clean energy jobs.
Malinowski, who was re-elected to a second term in 2020, faces a tough re-election bid this fall after redistricting made New Jersey’s 7th district better for Republicans.
Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited Westfield in 2021 to boost Malinowski by appealing to commuters interested in rail improvements across the Hudson River.
This is Granholm’s second visit to New Jersey. She joined Reps. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-Long Branch) to promote Biden’s infrastructure plan last summer.
Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff have all been in New Jersey for official and political visits.
Last year, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough, Secretary of Education Miquel Cardona, Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge made appearances in New Jersey.
