The Human Fundraising machine strikes again.
Freshman Rep. Josh Gottheimer raised $748,580 between May 18 and June 30, bringing up his total fundraising haul for his re-election campaign to $5,106,672. His total cash-on-hand is $ $4,533,752.
John McCann, a former Cresskill councilman who is Gottheimer’s general election opponent, reported his cash-on-hand at $6,492. McCann has raised a total of $103,742 but was forced to spend most of it to narrowly eke out a GOP primary victory against former Bogota mayor Steve Lonegan.
McCann raised $32,087 during the same period.
Gottheimer ousted Rep. Scott Garrett in 2016 by a 51%-47% margin in a district that Donald Trump won by one percentage point – a 4,089-vote plurality. Gottheimer, a former Clinton White House speechwriter, spent nearly $4.7 million –plus an additional $5.2 million spent by outside groups — to beat Garrett, who spent $4.2 million.
The preliminary Gottheimer numbers were first reported by The (Bergen) Record.
