A new digital ad accuses Democratic congressional candidate Rebecca Bennett of opposing the Child Tax Credit, arguing that her position would raise costs for New Jersey families.
The National Republican Congressional Committee, which is backing two-term Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) for re-election in New Jersey’s 7th district, paid for the ad.
The ad uses a clip from Bennett’s debate with Kean last week where she said that “undoing the cuts” would be one of her top priorities. The Republicans suggest that Bennett’s opposition to the Big Beautiful Bill includes a central component: increasing the maximum child tax credit from $2,000 to $2,000.
The ad also slams Bennett for using campaign funds to pay for her own childcare expenses. That became legal in 2018 when the Federal Election Commission voted unanimously to approve it,.
Script: “(Narrator) Childcare costs are rising. Affecting New Jerseyans. But self-serving millionaire Rebecca Bennett wants to repeal the Child Tax Credit. (Bennett) ‘You know, #1 undoing the cuts that were done.’ (Narrator) You heard that right. Rebecca Bennett says ‘undo’ the Child Tax Credit. Cashing in while using campaign donations to pay her own childcare. She’s living large. Her plan for you? (Bennett) ‘You know, #1 undoing the cuts that were done.’ ‘Undoing the cuts that were done.’ ‘Undoing the cuts that were done.’”
“Self-serving millionaire Rebecca Bennett wants to push her Party’s extreme agenda that hikes childcare costs because she won’t feel the pinch herself; Bennett pays for her own childcare on her campaign’s dime. It doesn’t get more out of touch than that,” said Maureen O’Toole, an NRCC spokesperson. “In Congress, Rebecca Bennett would put her own interests ahead of New Jersey families.”
