Nicholas Whitelock, a real estate investor from Oaklyn, has filed to run as a Republican in New Jersey’s 1st congressional district, giving Rep. Donald Norcross (D-Camden) a second prospective challenger.

According to his LinkedIn, Whitelock currently runs his own real estate investment firm, Whitelock LLC. He does not appear to have run for public office before.

One other Republican, carpenter Damon Galdo, has been in the race against Norcross for nearly a year. Galdo – who was the runner-up in the 2022 GOP primary for the same district – has raised next to no money.

No matter who emerges as the Republican nominee, though, Norcross is almost certainly safe for another term in Congress. The 1st district, which includes Camden and most of its suburbs, is solidly Democratic, and Norcross won re-election in 2022 62%-35%.

This story was updated on April 16 with a correction: former State Sen. Ed Durr has not, in fact, endorsed Galdo.
