At a Cape May Indivisible rally to protest President Donald Trump’s appearance in Wildwood, Democratic congressional candidate Will Cunningham plans to say that “Donald Trump mastered the Art of the Deal and Jeff Van Drew mastered the Art of the Steal.”
“He stole a congressional seat pretending to be a Democrat and funded his race with hundreds of thousands of campaign dollars he received from all of us, because he said he was a Democrat,” Cunningham says he will say in his speech later today.
Cunningham, a former aide to U.S. Senator Cory Booker and Rep. Elijah Cummings, ran against Van Drew in the 2018 Democratic primary.
“In 2018, I warned South Jersey that Jeff Van Drew was a liar, but I never imagined he would betray our community and switch parties,” Cunningham said. “We will not be fooled twice.”
Van Drew won the primary with 57% of the vote against three progressive challengers. Cunningham finished third with 16%.
