The Brady Campaign has endorsed Will Cunningham for the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd district.
Cunningham, a former aide to U.S. Senator Cory Booker, has made his support of comprehensive gun control legislation a key issue in his bid against front runner Jeff Van Drew in the Democratic primary for the seat of retiring Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-Ventnor.) Van Drew, a state senator, has a 100% rating from the National Rifle Association.
“We’re proud to stand with these outstanding candidates, all of whom have shown themselves to be dedicated champions when it comes to gun violence prevention,” stated Kris Brown, co-president of the Brady Campaign. “With nationwide polls consistently showing that gun safety is a top issue in the minds of voters, we are going to see a clear trend this election cycle. The intensity of pro-gun violence prevention voters has never been stronger. If you stand with the overwhelming majority of voters for common-sense gun reform, you will be rewarded at the ballot box. If you stand with the NRA and the gun lobby, you will be looking for a new job.”
Cunningham has signed the noNRAmoney.org pledge.
“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the Brady Campaign,” said Cunningham. “Our children are dying, and innocent Americans are being slaughtered because so many of our politicians – including my NRA-A rated opponent Jeff Van Drew – refuse to stand up to the gun lobby and do what is right – pass sensible gun control measures that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and those wishing our communities harm.”
