Bergen Record backs Sherrill

Calls Democratic candidate a ‘breath of fresh air’

Democrat Mikie Sherrill has won the endorsement of The (Bergen) Record against Assemblyman Jay Webber in her bid for retiring Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen’s 11th district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Sherrill is the more reasoned and moderate choice; she is pro-choice and favors sensible gun regulation. We believe she will be fiscally responsible, will seek workable and humane immigration reform, will push mightily for funding toward the Gateway tunnel project and will advocate for affordable quality health care for all,” the editorial board wrote.

Webber, the newspaper says, “swerves well to the right of the Republican mainstream in New Jersey.”

“Sherrill is the breath of fresh air the district needs; the only person on the ballot who will embody the longtime moderate and reasoned tone set forth by Frelinghuysen,” the newspaper said. “She goes in as someone not knowing all the answers, but someone who will be unafraid, from Day One, to ask the right questions.”
