Tenafly Councilwoman Lauren Kohn Dayton today endorsed Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle for the Democratic State Senate nomination in the 37th district, calling her an “accessible, compassionate and responsive leader for Tenafly and Bergen County. “
“Assemblywoman (Vainieri) Huttle has demonstrated that she is one of the consummate public servants and state legislators of our time, finding groundbreaking, innovative and pragmatic solutions for our community,” Dayton said. “Her humanity, empathy, and impressive legislative career should be recognized and celebrated as an example of the type of leadership that is best to serve others.”
Tenafly Mayor Mark Zinna endorsed Vainieri Huttle’s rival, Assemblyman Gordon Johnson, last week.
The two Assembly members are facing off for the seat of Loretta Weinberg, the Senate Majority Leader, who announced this month that she would not seek re-election to a sixth term this year.
Dayton is a member of the Democratic County Committee in Tenafly. She was elected to the council in 2017.
