New Jersey added 7,383 new voters to the rolls in February, with a substantial drop for Democrats and a significant increase for Republicans, according to voter registration numbers released today by the state Division of Elections.
Democrats lost 3,652 voters last month, but still have a statewide voter registration edge of 940,815. Since Joe Biden took office, Democrats have gradually lost the registration edge of one million voters they had in 2020.
Republicans added 2,323 new voters in February, and the number of unaffiliated voters increased by 8,872.
In the closely-watched 7th district congressional race, where freshman Rep. Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) is expected to face Democrat Sue Altman in one of the most competitive districts in the nation, Republicans improved their registration edge by 275 votes, from 16,948 in January to 17,223 as of yesterday.
