WASHINGTON — The House Democrats’ political arm launched a six-figure digital ad campaign Tuesday touting former Navy helicopter pilot Rebecca Bennett, the party’s nominee against Rep. Tom Kean Jr. in New Jersey’s most competitive House race.
The ad highlights the Democrats’ theme of affordability, with inflation increasing and gasoline prices up since President Donald Trump took office last year.
It is targeted toward Asian American families, whose population exceeds 70,000 and is the largest minority group in the 7th District, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The tagline, Fighting for Our Families, appears in English, Korean, Chinese, and Hindi.
The advertisement will run on YouTube, Hulu, Paramount+, and other streaming platforms.
Bennett, the ad says, “fights for New Jersey families like ours. Now she’s running for Congress to do even more for us. She’ll fight to lower the cost of groceries, bring down gas prices, and make health care and prescription drugs more affordable.”
The ad does not mention Kean (R-Westfield), who voted for Trump’s giant tax and spending bill and opposed legislation requiring congressional approval for the war with Iran.
Script: “Families across New Jersey are under pressure. Groceries, gas, medicine, childcare — everything costs more. Corporations’ profits rise, while our families pay the price. Rebecca Bennett is a former Navy pilot, a mom of two, and a health care advocate — she fights for New Jersey families like ours. Now she’s running for Congress to do even more for us. She’ll fight to lower the cost of groceries, bring down gas prices, and make health care and prescription drugs more affordable. Rebecca Bennett: Fighting to lower costs for our families.”
“Tom Kean Jr. has voted to unleash higher prices on New Jersey families, while giving tax breaks to big corporations and his wealthy donors,” said Sujan Sedhai, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s national engagement director for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
“Rebecca Bennett is the proven fighter that New Jersey families need to lower costs — she’s dedicated her life to protecting the American people and she’ll do the same in Congress.”
The Cook Political Report rates the race a tossup, while Inside Elections gives Bennett a slight edge.
