When Kamala Harris sought the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, she raised $337,350 from New Jersey-based donors in a state that had been locked up for favorite son Cory Booker.

Her top donor in New Jersey was Holly Ann Hyde, a writer from Skillman who donated $3,800 to Harris.   Hyde also donated to Elizabeth Warren and Andrew Yang during the Democratic primary.

Barbara Sellinger donated $1,000 to Harris one day after she had her husband, Philip, now the U.S. Attorney from New Jersey, held a fundraiser for Booker at their home.

Michael Kempner, a New Jersey public relations executive who served as one of Hillary Clinton’s national finance co-chairs in 2009 and later as the deputy finance chairman of the Democratic National Committee, contributed $2,700 to Harris.

Kempner also contributed $5,600 to Amy Klobuchar, Kristin Gillibrand, Joe Biden and Booker.

Another Harris donor is Linda Weber, who sought the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th district in 2018 before dropping out.

Deepak Raj, the head of a private investment firm and one of Gov. Phil Murphy’s appointees to the New Jersey State Investment Council, contributed $2,700 to Harris while also donating to Tulsi Gabbard and Booker.

Harris had raised over $43 million for that campaign, but dropped out on December 3, 2019 after polling in the low single digits and depleting her campaign cash.
